Difference between Microprocessor and Microcomputer

Microprocessor: 

  • Microprocessor is a single central processing unit (CPU) on a single chip.
  • It includes Arithmetic and logic unit (ALU), control unit (CU), registers, instruction decoders, bus control circuit, etc. on a single chip.
Microcomputer:

  • Microcomputer contains microprocessor and the peripheral I/O devices, support circuit and memory.
  • They are not necessarily on a single chip. 
In simple words, microprocessor is one component of the microcomputer. But a microcomputer is a complete computer similar to any other computer.
